Hold Your Horse Is - Q&A
Since Hold Your Horse Is are our Band of the Week we caught up with them to ask a few questions….
1. So HYHI! What have you been up to Recently? Anything Nice?
Robin: Writing songs and that.
Chris: Working and working, trying to earn money to fix my car which totally shit the bed last week!!
James: History Degree dissertation.
2. What is the best thing about being in HYHI?
Robin: The chicks.
3. You have made some pretty ace music videos for some of your songs, is this something you really wanted to do? Or was is just for fun? Since Music videos don’t seem to be used much anymore.
Robin: Yeah, music videos are really fun! I’ve always wanted to make videos for songs, so I’m really glad that we’re doing it. It can be a bit stressful making them but I love having a finished video, it’s a real treat.
Chris: I always like videos for songs that aren’t just straight up performance videos. I like the idea of adding images to go with music. Sounds poncy, but it’s cool, as some people might hear the words and think oh it’s about dumping someone…..then you have a video of Guess Who! ha!
4. We caught your show at the Brudenell in Feb. What’s been your favorite venue to play at in the UK?
Robin: The West End Centre in Aldershot, one hundred percent of the time, every time.
5. Do you lot enjoy the odd film? What are your favorites?
Robin: True Romance, Triplets of Belleville, Me and You and Everyone We Know..
Chris: There Will Be Blood, Amelie, Scott Pilgrim, so many films I love….ah fuck! BATMAN!!!
James: Pulp Fiction, Amelie, Monty Python Films.
6. What’s you main non Musical Influence?
Robin: It’s a tough call between Christopher Walken and Arnie.
7. What’s the strangest thing that’s happened to you on tour/gig?
Robin: On our most recent tour we played in Ipswich and some people (including the manager) decided to play twister in front of the stage. Then we finished the set with me playing guitar outside the pub (still plugged in, pretty awesome), THEN they let us run the bar for a few hours after closing. Very drunk.
Chris: Getting my earplug stuck in my ear so far Robin had to tweezer it out!
8. Each member’s first artist/band they saw live?
Robin: Madness, at Wembley arena. I was 10.
Chris: Various local bands, but Reuben was the first notable band, then it was P.O.D. check me out!!
James: Less Than Jake at the Astoria RIP!
9. Besides playing music together what are your hobbies? Computer games, sports, religion, education etc.
Robin: Studying Sonic Arts at Middlesex University. Shooting BMX photos for a couple of publications. Riding BMX. Cooking.
Chris: like pub quiz! ha! that and computer games, recently became a nerd with that. I like to play guitar a bit too.
James: History degree, Beer and going to gigs!
10. Lots of bands in the ‘alternative music scene’ like to release their Albums/EP’s on vinyl records. Is this something you would look into?
Robin: Hopefully. People who really want to listen to music for ultimate appreciation, vinyl all the way. Although the techical side can be a bit tough apparently, different mixes and stuff, our friend Ioana told us all about it! I’d be stoked to get 12x12 artwork done…
James: I love vinyl and I try my best to buy records on Vinyl, it’s super expensive to get pressed unless you make like 500, hopefully one day someone will have faith in us selling that many!
11. 2011 has just started (pretty much), what have you got planned and what are you aims for the rest of the year?
Write an owlbum, record the owlbum, tour with some rad bands, finish my 2nd year of uni successfully, take awesome photos and write awesome words then see it all in awesome print as Robin: much as possible.
Chris: usual guff….get fitter, eat healthier. I’d like to have a fully working car too, and have some fun with my house!
James: Graduate!
